TVS Motors to introduce ABS on yet to be launched 200cc bikes

ABS(Anti-Lock Braking Systems)

-equipped bikes with an average skill rider can reliably bring a motorcycle to a dramatic, anti skid stop every time, largely because a greater percentage of technical braking force can be applied without concern for lock-up. The ABS ensures that neither the front nor rear wheel will skid - ever - and neither do they release more than necessary to just barely prevent a skid. So even in most dry consditions, braking distance can be significantly shortened for most riders due to their being consistently able to freely apply available technical braking force. When one encounters sand, railroad tracks, and grass as occasional road surfaces, the effects become particularly dramatic. On wet roads, for example, ABS still maintains optimal threshold braking, producing an abrupt, controlled stop on conditions that almost surely cause a skid if a similarly hard stop were attempted with conventional brakes. And as a result, under wet conditions the ABS bike sees braking distances consistantly reduced by atleast one third over conventional brakes.

BMW was first to bring ABS brakes to the market and today offers the widest range of motorcycles equipped with ABS. But today Honda, Yamaha, and Ducati all offer riders ABS-equipped motorcycles. Here are some models of motorcycles available with ABS brakes—either standard or as an option: Yamaha FJR1300 (no longer produced: FJ 1200A, GTS 1000)
Honda Gold Wing GL1800, ST1300 ABS, Silver Wing 600 and 400 (scooters)
Ducati ST4 ABS
BMW K1200LT, K1200S, K1200RS, K1200GT (and numerous others no longer in production)
BMW R1200RT, R1200GS, R1150RT, R1150RT-P, R1150RS, R1150R, R1100S, R1150GS, R1200C, R1200CL
BMW F650 (various)

In 2007, three manufacturers have introduced new ABS models. Moto Guzzi offer the 1200cc Norge with ABS standard. ABS is optional on the 2007 Kawasaki Concours 14 and the Triumph Sprint ST.

No Indian motorcyle is equipped with ABS till date. Now its TVS Motors of india to introduce ABS initially on yet to be launched high powered bikes of TVS in the premium 200 cc segment. By introducing ABS to its premium bikes the cost may increase by 7% to 8%. And bad part is that TVS Motors has applied for patent on this technology. I dont understand why these companies like Bajaj and TVS are so obbessed with patenting the technologies which are already there in international market.
